Assignment 3- My
Entrepreneurship Story
*Record Scratch. * *Freeze Frame* Yeah that’s me there on
the left.
And you’re probably wondering how I ended up
in this situation. This was where it all started. A High School DECA Competition. I was forced to sign-up for a AICE Business class that my school offered to fill up a hole in my schedule senior year of high school. My two friends pictured here with our business idea ended up doing well enough in the competition to go to the National Level of the Competition. That is where I got my start in learning business and began an interest in entrepreneurship. This experience exposed me into the world of business and all it had to offer and ultimately led me to pursuing a business degree when I enrolled in college.
We’ve all been exposed to
entrepreneurs in some way or fashion across the span of our short lives.
Entrepreneurs are everywhere, from the local sandwich shop to the barber that
cuts your hair. I have been seriously impacted by entrepreneurs because throughout
High School my first job was working at a family friend’s furniture shop, which
they started back in 1976. This was a
cool experience because it is still a relatively small business and you got to
see the many hats that the owners and operators had to wear when they were
working at the store. They worked everything from customer service, to helping
with design, to helping with sales. Working there really opened my eyes into
how hard it is to operate your own business. After even being open 35+ years
when I was working there they still ran into problems on the daily, and some of
the same problems that they were running into since the inception of the
company.
Why
to take any class in college, besides for a major requirement. You take a class
in college to learn and become a more well-rounded person. I took this class in
hopes of learning how to blog, and how to manage a blog. It is one of my goals
in life to create a successful blog. Also, I took this class to learn in
general what entrepreneurship is and what it takes to start up a company and
hopefully make it successful. After all its almost everyone’s dream to be
master of his domain and work for themselves in some capacity. I want to be
able to do this at some point in my life whether it is when I am right out of
school starting up my own business or after I retire from a typical 9-5 job. I
hope this class will give me some sort of idea of where the starting line is
when you want to open your own business.
Hey again Josh. I also want to grow in my blogging skills. I have my blog (camihall.com) would love if you could give me feedback on that as you get better at it. Also, what was your idea for DECA? Really exciting to see that your hard work came to fruition being able to compete at the national level. I also worked at a local company in high school (my parents flooring business) and learned a lot about the day in- day out operations of running a small business.
ReplyDeleteHey Josh, interesting story. I entered the world of business and entrepreneurship in a completely different and unorthodox way than you did. I entered for no other reason than just wanting to make my own schedule and maximize my profits rather than being paid an hourly or salary pay and I have had my own company for almost 7 years now. I do enjoy seeing how you entered through an educational route instead of a trial and error route. I believe that many would not go your route because they may find it boring.
ReplyDeleteHey. That is a very interesting story. In my high school in Weston, Fl, DECA was a very important class you had to take while in high school. I took DECA my sophomore year and really liked it. DECA was a very cool class and experience but sadly I only took the first one. I look forward to reading more of your posts.
ReplyDeleteHey Josh, I really enjoyed reading this post. I too gained interest and experience working for a company sparked by an entrepreneurs dream. You truly do see all the different hats owners have to wear each and every day to run their business. Great job on the post and I look forward to reading more of yours in future.
