Solving the Problem

As much as I love the idea of "Kitten Mittons." (Shoutout to the Always Sunny Fans out there). My idea has to do with the movement towards everything being subscription based. The market has moved more towards the subscription method of keeping customers using their service. Examples of this are Netflix, Spotify, Hulu and other services like Blue Apron, and Dollar Shave Club. These subscriptions can be either be quite pricey, or the cheap cost of them adds up, sometimes people forget the signed up for something and end up paying for it and never use it..

Millions of people end up wasting money on the subscription you hardly use, or there may be a cheaper option for the same service, or forget they pay for it. This is a problem that many people are facing in today’s world. People are unaware of how much money they are wasting on subscriptions. For example, I went through my debit/credit card statement and saw that I was spending almost $35 a month on subscriptions that I did not use, or barely used. It was also very difficult to figure out how to unsubscribe from some of these services, like People Magazine.

The product/service that I propose to fix this is an app that allows the user to link his/her bank account or debit card to the app and it loads in all the subscriptions that are linked to that card/account and shows the cost per month of the subscription. It will also have an easy one-click feature that will allow you to unsubscribe from the service, so that you do not have to dig around and search on the internet for how to do it. The app will also show the other options that are for a similar service that are cheaper, if you want to switch to a different company but still want the service.

  1. Dude! Love the changes to your idea... I think the app that allows you to put all of your subscriptions in one place is much better than a new streaming service. I think this eliminates the fear people have for switching services and having to learn a new interface but also accomplishes the need of having all of the subscriptions in one place. One thought... I think people may have a fear that the app isn't secure. How will you combat this? Since they are putting their credit card there. Love the feature that lets them unsubscribe. I also think it would be helpful to show coupons/ deals for services and compare prices between services so that people can easily switch if there is a better deal. Great job!

  2. I like the idea of having everything organized in one app. Sometimes I get confused when I check my bank statement and I see so many subscriptions and sometimes ai don't recognize them and have to call my bank to double check. It would make life easier to many people. Really liked your idea, great post!

  3. I really liked this idea! I think something like this should exists for emails as well. I cannot tell you how many things I have my email subscribed to and its so annoying. I get so many pointless emails on a daily basis that sometimes I have a hard time figuring out whats actually important. Plus, sometimes companies will sell your email to another subscription service and you'll get even more spam. Trying to figure out how to unsubscribe from these emails is such a challenge too and once you get out of one, 50 more pop up!

  4. This is genius! This application would make my life so much easier!! Especially the feature that would let you unsubscribe easily. These applications make it so difficult for you to find the place to unsubscribe. And obviously having all my subscriptions in one place would be fantastic.

  5. Joshua, it definitely sounds like a complicated product to sell and market. If you have the right customer base, price point, and proper logistics to make it all work though, you can become huge! I think the main thing is being able to unsubscribe easily.

  6. I love the idea of an app that will keep track of all my subscriptions. As a college student with an extremely busy schedule, I always end up signing up for subscriptions and then I forget to unsubscribe, which results in exorbitant fees to my credit card. I would be extremely interested in purchasing this app; however, I would need to know the cost of the app.

  7. I would love an app that would show me what I am currently subscribed to. Most recently I signed up for a free trial for Tidal to listen to one of Kanye's new albums, and when the trial was up I forgot to unsubscribe and had over three months of charges. This is a great idea and I would definitely use this app.
