Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Report Findings and Draw Conclusions:

In all three interviews that I conducted I learned that there was a preference for it to be an application on their phone rather than also having a website that offers the same service which I thought was interesting. After asking more questions as to why this was they felt it was more convenient to have it in the palm of your hand. One interviewee mentioned that people will download an app just cause all their friends have it. He said, “that’s why I have Soundcloud on my phone, I don’t use it but all of my friends have it so I might as well have it.”

My first interview said that they would prefer the application to be more a financial planning app rather than have it be just a thing to cancel your subscriptions. I mentioned to the interviewee that there are thousands of applications out there for money management but not one just for cancelling subscriptions. But then she mentioned that it could differentiate me in that space and I thought that was a great idea. She mentioned that any money she could save would make her feel like the application worked and was successful.

My second interviewee mentioned that they would love to use something like that app that I have come up with but it would have to be also in the Google Play store.
Since I am an iPhone user and have been since the 7th grade I did not even think that it. Those pesky android users (jk lol). He mentioned that he would like that application if it made him feel like he was more in control of his money, he said he wouldn’t mind not saving money just as long he felt like he was in control.

The Third interview came up with a unique idea. They suggested that maybe every month the app can send you a text message about when you need to pay a subscription and the total amount of money that you are spending on subscriptions. Something that I did not think of before.

For the most part good new ideas were brought to my attention and most of the people said that they would use that app and be happy with it if it helped them save money.

  1. I really like that last idea. If the app could text you a week or a few days before your subscription came due that would be really helpful. That way you wouldn't have to go in every month and look and what is due and when, and you could have time to cancel a subscription if you didn't have the money that month.

  2. I enjoyed reading your post. The three people you interviewed seemed to have experience with paying bills and managing money. I really like the text idea, since people normally text message and not check their e-mail, as often as they're supposed to check it. For me, I personally think that someone who cannot handle their money well would choose to have the app send them text messages of when they should pay the subscription.

  3. I really agree with your conclusions. I even stand with one your interviewer's thoughts. He mentioned having SoundCloud downloaded only because his friends have it. I even have a few apps that I have never used but people have recommended to me so I downloaded it and kept it on my phone. With an app, ease is the best thing to do. I want to be able to have something I can easily pull up on my phone. I'd rather go on canvas on my phone than the website. Everyone has their phone in their hand so it makes it so much easier to pull up an app and check rather than a website.

  4. I liked the last idea a lot. I still think that this would be a good app and good service. I think that having a text sent to you from the app reminding you to pay subscriptions or unsubscribe would be really good. Maybe include something in the app which can alert users of new deals that have to do with services they're subscribed too. Like if Hulu starts offering a cheaper bundle package with Spotify (as they currently do), then the app would let everyone using the app know that theres a deal out there.

  5. I enjoyed reading the feedback of your three interviewees. I would also rather have an application on my phone provide me with updates on my subscriptions than a website. If the application could send you text messages updates with your monthly spending on subscriptions, then I think that text message would help users manage their money more efficiently. Text message reminders will save users from wasting their money on subscriptions that they don’t need anymore.
