Idea Napkin No. 1

Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically, regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?
o
Hello there! Well my name is Josh Markevich, and I’m a General Business student.
I have a variety of talents ranging from the useless to the useful. I am an outgoing person and like to think of myself as a people person, who people like to be a round. In my free time I write movie and TV show scripts. I am a good public speaker and have experience speaking in high pressure situations. Over the summer I worked a sales internship, so I know how the art of selling works in business practice. As a semi-professional poker player, I have good money and financial management skills. In the future I want to become a professional poker player, and people to support myself solely by playing poker. If this takes off I see this as being my primary focus. I would love to help people save money.

What are you offering to customersDescribe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).
o   I’m offering an app/website that links with your bank account or card and it shows what you are paying for subscriptions and memberships every month. For example, it will see how much you are paying for the gym, Netflix, dollar shave club, magazines, Spotify, etc. It will come up with a monthly total of all the subscriptions, and give you various pieces of info. It will show how much you would save a month by cancelling the subscriptions, a cheaper alternative (if available), and give the ability to have a one-click cancellation. The one-step cancellation makes it so you don’t need to search across the website of the service for the cancel subscription.

Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?
o   The focus of the market is people who like to save money, and subscribe to many services and products. Typically, these are younger people Gen-Xers and millennials who subscribe to a lot of services, as it is popular with this group. Im targeting this item to people who like to save money, I mean who doesn’t like having a few extra bucks lying around.

Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable as so far as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will pay you money to use your product or service.
o   I don’t know one person who does not like to have extra money lying around, if you know someone that doesn’t they got to be a government robot or something. For a small price of .99 cents a month you can save up to $30 a month. That’s $360 a year. Think about it that’s Starbucks 100 times. That’s pretty good if you ask me.

What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?
o   I am a go-getter. I do not take no for an answer. I thrive under pressure. I have a variety of talents and experiences that not many people have. I have a lot of connections in the business world to higher-ups in major companies, and other people who have experience with start-ups. Through playing poker tournaments, and cash games I have become friends with people who have backed other business ideas like UBER, and Instagram, which will be helpful in getting this off the ground. I am used to staying up all hours of the night, and working on a variety of things.

In addition to these five elements, please spend a paragraph evaluating whether you believe these elements fit together or whether there are aspects of your business concept that are weaker / out-of-joint with the others.

o   I think these elements all blend together to create something that is successful. To start a business you need an idea, a way to fund it, and people to use your service. I have these and I have the will to work and do what it takes, to make this successful. I think that the only weak part of this plan is developing the app, I have some experience with creating an app. But, it needs to be secure because people will be putting their banking and credit card info into the app.

  1. This is an awesome idea napkin! I think Dr. Pryor would say something like "you shouldn't create an app if you don't know how to make an app" though. Who will you reach out to make the app? And are you sure they will be willing to work with you? If you do so, you will have to share the profits. Great positives about yourself- keep being a go getter and working on your poker game!

  2. I really like this idea, especially for your target market of younger people. Sometimes it takes people a while to fully get a grasp on how to properly spend their money and this would provide a way for them to get visual proof of how they are spending but also show them how much they would save. This would definitely help out a lot of people, especially college students.

  3. I love your idea for an app to show you how much you spend. Not only does it target a younger audience, but it charges an older audience, as well. It keeps track of your budget and helps you know how much you will be spending. Especially with funds from college students, it decreases debt and scams from companies.

  4. This idea is perfect! I would definitely use it and know a lot of people will too. Parents would also love this because it will organize all your payments for the different subscription you might have. I also really like that you can see with this app if there are any other apps that are cheaper giving you the same service. I hope to read more of this great idea napkin.
