We have all been in college long enough
that there are no such thing a semester that has no problems, and one without
any worries. It isn’t college unless you somehow forget to pay rent, go out the
night before an exam and forget to wake up for the exam in your hungover stupor,
or maybe that is just the problems that me and my friends deal with.
Man this semester has been a rough one
to be sure, honestly probably one of the more difficult ones that I’ve had. I will
tell you for sure that I will not be making the same mistakes as I did this
semester again.
I had a pretty epic fail outside of this
class. I had an internship interview for an internship that I would have loved
to have and work for that company possibly once school is over. The internship
was located in California which is a different time zone from where we are in Florida.
The skype call for the interview was scheduled for 12pm EST, but I didn’t see
in the email it said EST. So long story short I thought they meant 12pm local
time, and I missed the interview. I mean stuff happens and you just gotta move
on.
The main thing I learned was to read
what time zone people are on and then planning around it. There’s still
thousands of internship opportunities out there, but this one I let get away by
not even showing up for the interview. But everything happens for a reason right. A door closes and a window
opens. I learned you just need to be careful about time for meetings.
I
handle failure quite well to be honest. This is probably because of my
background playing highly competitive golf as a youth. I am also a super
positive person and take the best outlook on everything. I take my failures and
learn from them so I don’t repeat the same mistakes over and over again. This class
hasn’t really changed my aspect on failure, but it will make me more likely to
take risks and possibly start a company.

ReplyDeleteI liked your post because it was similar to mine. My failure was that I always procrastinate. I consider this a failure because I feel that I could do better when turning in assignments. The most important thing is to learn from our failures and learn to improve.
Shoot! That is a huge bummer that you missed out on the interview. That makes me want to be much more careful when I read directions. I agree that you handle failure well, I on the other hand, not so much. I tend to fall into "people pleasing" and really am working hard to stop doing so. Anyway, thanks for putting so much effort into your post, you definitely continue to improve your work.
ReplyDeleteDang man, what sucks is that you were really thinking and trying to consider everything but it just slipped by you. Happens to everyone. You seem to have a good attitude about it though, which is the only thing you can do. Everything happens for a reason, so you just have to keep your eyes open for the next opportunity. Hope you find another internship soon!
ReplyDeleteJosh, great post. It always seems when life is down, it pushes you further down and when it is good, it's great, but always seems to push you back down. The key to survival in the world is attitude and as long as you are positive you will always have a better outlook than the other.
ReplyDeleteThat stinks that you missed your interview! But you're right to say that everything happens for a reason. It's great that you're able to handle failure so well, personally, I've always had a bit of a perfectionist personality, so failure is something that I've had a hard time learning to accept. However, it is a part of life and, like you said, when one door closes a window opens, so we all have to learn how to deal with failure in an appropriate matter.
